Afro polio weekly update (as at 28th october 2011)

• At Regional level
  • In 2011 and as of 26th October two hundred and ninety nine (299) wild poliovirus cases have been reported in the Region from12 countries (Angola, CAR, Chad, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, DRC, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya,Mali, Niger and Nigeria)
• At Global level
  • In 2011 and as of 25th October, 489 Wild Poliovirus (WPV) cases were reported, 217 from endemic countries and 272 from non-endemic countries.With 295 cases out of 489, the African Region accounts for 60% of WPV cases reported globally in 2011. (Data source- WHO/HQ, 25thOctober 2011).
